Afghan 100+ Year Tradition
DHTI proudly celebrates an Afghan 100+ year old tradition of making, decorating and flying kites at Robert Crown Memorial Park on Monday, 11/21/22! It was a beautiful day of kite flying and community coming together to honor a tradition through time! Thank you Rabih Obeid, Sara Mansouri and Mahmood Kohgadai for all your outstanding efforts in the success of this event! We invited the Afghan community from Oakland and Fremont to this kite event. They build kites from stretched dowel rods, plastic, and string. We had cookies, bananas, dates, and tea. We ordered Afghani's popular appetizer from the restaurant. We had music and we ran the kites in the best weather in November at Alameda shore. The huge tree is similar to the trees in Afghanistan. Each table is decorated with purple and yellow tablecloth and a small flower in the middle. We gave each of the flowers to each family to take home as a keepsake!
