About DHTI

Sidra Community wellness IS A program of Diversity in health training institute (DHTI)

Diversity in Health Training Institute (DHTI) is an Oakland-based nonprofit, established in 2011 by then Alameda County Supervisor Alice Lai-Bitker to address the increasing demand for a linguistically and culturally diverse healthcare delivery system by assisting multicultural health professionals to enter or re-enter U.S. healthcare professions while also enabling healthcare employers to diversify their workforce to be responsive to patient needs. DHTI works with immigrants on workforce development and wellness through two core initiatives.

Through our Healthcare Career Pathways Initiative, we engage participants and partners through individual and group career exploration and pathways navigation coaching; trainings and fellowships, including our Community Health Worker Fellowship and Young Leaders for Community Wellness program; and work-based learning opportunities. The Sidra Community Wellness Program is a part of our growing Community Wellness Initiative through which we offer direct service provision and advance innovative strategies to increase access among immigrant communities to wellness and mental health providers and resources locally.

Sidra Community Wellness Program launched in July 2019 and is funded by Alameda County’s Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Prevention and Early Intervention Un/Underserved Ethnic and Language Populations (UELP) Program. The purpose of the Sidra Community Wellness Program is to promote healing, wellness and mental health among Middle Eastern and North African communities in Alameda County. Specifically, we offer preventive counseling, support groups, educational and cultural workshops, community events and outreach to support wellness and mental health. As part of this work, we also offer consultations to local organizations, providers and community leaders about how to be culturally responsive and supportive with Middle Eastern and North African communities when it comes to mental health and wellness.
